This pillow cover is made from an antique ikat from Ndona, a village in the Ende region of Flores, Indonesia, known for its master weavers. Traditionally woven for ceremonial purposes, Ndona ikat is celebrated for its intricate patterns and deep, earthy tones, such as the rich rust hues seen in this piece.

Crafted with natural dyes, this textile is not only a work of art but also a rare cultural treasure. With an age of nearly 100 years, the Ikat’s historical value adds to its uniqueness and makes it an incredibly valuable heirloom. The time-intensive weaving process and ceremonial origins make Ikat from Ndona especially rare, offering a glimpse into the past and the skilled craftsmanship of its makers.

Ikat is renowned for its intricate designs and vibrant colors, rooted in centuries-old traditions of Indonesian weaving. Each piece is meticulously handwoven by skilled artisans, and dyed using natural plant dyes, often taking anywhere from 2 - 6 months per piece to complete, making it a unique work of art. Ikat patterns of weaving are handed down as a taught skill - it is a rare art in decline. We feel very fortunate to be able to source & support this art, in our own indirect way.
